The last two weeks have been like nothing I’ve ever experienced. My last day at Artnet News was April 16. Thank you to all who have reached out to support me. Starting this new chapter evokes a complex blend of emotions. Grief and sadness, anger and resentment, but also relief and hope—and excitement about what comes next.
I am incredibly proud of helping launch Artnet News, which became an authoritative and trusted voice in the art industry seemingly overnight. I learned so much, and helped tell so many powerful stories—5,791 bylines over the last 12 years!
I’ve worked with an incredible murderers’ row of art journalists I now count as friends. Since 2014, that’s included Eileen Kinsella and Ben Davis, two of the best in the business. I genuinely loved working at Artnet. So much of that was because of my amazing, kind, funny, smart coworkers—both on the news team, and across the company. We had something special. Please assist those who Artsy laid off any way you can!
As for me, there are many more stories to tell. I have been overwhelmed by the love and encouragement of all the friends and colleagues I have made over the years. I know there will be no shortage of opportunities, starting with a trip to Venice this week. Truly, this is all working out for the best. Congrats! change is good and better opportunities arise. Take it from a person who got terminated twice from artnet auctions and grew stronger from those professional shifts. The grass is actually greener. Best Becky

When I was 24, contemplating moving across country, to AZ, where I knew no one. I was offered a job that would require I travel the world and teach the world’s most important doctors how to use newly developed ultrasound equipment. I called my mother, and she said, Patty, nothing ventured, nothing gained. You know me today…yes, it worked out, and your new venture will also! Congrats Sarah on this exciting time of your life!
