My name is Sarah Cascone, and I am an independent arts and culture writer. Over the last 12 years, I have developed a devoted following for my articles about the unexpected intersection of art and other facets of media, culture, and politics, with a focus on women artists and feminist issues. I currently write a column, “The Overlook,” for CULTURED magazine. I was part of the original team that launched Artnet News in 2014, where I wrote or cowrote nearly 6,000 articles, and my work has appeared in the Art Newspaper, Art in America, Hyperallergic, Interview, among other publications.

My name is Sarah Cascone, and I am an independent arts and culture writer. Over the last 12 years, I have developed a devoted following for my articles about the unexpected intersection of art and other facets of media, culture, and politics, with a focus on women artists and feminist issues.

I currently write a column, “The Overlook,” for CULTURED magazine. I was part of the original team that launched Artnet News in 2014, where I wrote or cowrote nearly 6,000 articles, rising from assistant editor to senior writer during my tenure. From 2010 to 2014, I worked at Art in America, first as a marketing intern and then as editorial assistant. My work has appeared in the Art Newspaper, Hyperallergic, and Interview, among other publications. I am one of the contributing essayists in Ferried Away: Reflections on Governors Island, edited by Leslie Kerby and Elizabeth Logan Harris, which will be published by Fordham University Press on April 6, 2027.

I grew up on Long Island in Northport, but was often in New York City as a child, often to visit museums. I attended Fordham University, where I majored in visual art and history, with a minor in art history. From 2016 to 2020, I ran the networking group Young Women in the Arts. I have moderated numerous art industry panel events, and appeared on podcasts including “The Art Angle” and “Dr. Lisa Gives a Sh*t.”

Today, I live in Washington Heights with my husband and our young son. I enjoy cooking, biking, reading, and singing in my church choir in Harlem—and seeing as many art shows as possible, naturally.

I am available for freelance writing opportunities, including catalogue essays and news articles, as well as speaking engagements. My longterm goal is to write a book about women and the arts.
